Transmission repair is offered in 4 ways. You can bring your Wing in for repair, ship your motor (short or long block) for repair, or get your gears removed and ship the transmission and components only for inspection and repair. To remove the motor, special tools are required and available under the "SHOP NOW" tab. Additional tooling is required to open up the motor further, and those tools are available from Honda. Opening up the motor iw required to remove the transmission gears.
Actual repair costs vary depending on mileage, age, and other stress factors. The pricing below are examples of common "or known" costs associated with Ghost Shifting repair. They may or may not represent your repair and only represent up front known costs. For example, the labor cost to remove, inspect, and reinstall your engine is already known. The cost to machine your gears to stop ghost shifting is already known. The cost to reseal your engine with new gaskets, o-rings, and seals so that it does not leak oil or coolant after it is assembled and installed is already known. And it is already known that new oil and an oil filter is needed to start your engine after it is repaired. What is not known is the damage that ghost shifting caused and the cost associated to repair to your particular engine and transmission. An actual estimate can only be given after a full inspection has been completed.
CORRECTED GEAR SET – this repair is for the do-it-yourselfer, or for one who is having another shop remove their engine, and corrected gears are installed to correct a ghost shifting issue. A corrected gear set includes gears, shafts, forks, shift drum, bearings, internal linkage, and all gear bearings, clips and washers (a complete transmission and all of its related parts).
All gears have been magna fluxed and free of damage, the shafts inspected for trueness, and all other parts carefully inspected and verified in perfect reusable condition. Any gears that are not usauable have been replaced, others are repaired, and all gears 2-5 have undercut dogs undercut on their drive-side to eliminate ghost shifting.
common complaint: it pops out of gear, or it will not stay in gear, and/or it may make transmission related noise while running.
core charge: needed is a complete set of reusable, remachinable gears. Once your old gears are received, they are magna fluxed, and inspected for reuse. Additional costs occur when the old gears, forks, shafts, bearings, shift-drum, and shift linkage are not reusable, and those cost will be added to your final total. Damages to a ghost shifting gear set can commonly be $300-500.
